Fluoroscopy - Preparations
  

Exam Name

Exam Preparation Instructions

Arthrogram

Discontinue use of all blood thinning agents (Coumadin) four days prior to exam.
Since some joint discomfort may occur, bring a friend or a relative who can drive you home.

Barium Enema w/o Air

Patient will purchase a Fleet Prep Kit #2 and follow the 24 hour instructions The patient should drink plenty of water but should not have any dairy products 24 hours prior to the exam.

Barium Enema with Air

Patient will purchase a Fleet Prep Kit #2 and follow the 24 hour instructions omitting the soapsuds in the enema. The patient should drink plenty of water but should not have any dairy products 24 hours prior to the exam.

Barium Swallow

Patient should have nothing by mouth after midnight. Medications may be taken with a little water if needed.

 

 

GI with Small Bowel

Nothing to eat or drink after midnight before the exam. Patient may take medications with small amounts of water.

Hysterosalpingogram

This exam should be scheduled within the first ten days after the beginning of the patients’ menstrual cycle. Patients are to abstain from sexual intercourse until after the exam.

Intravenous Pyelogram

Patient is to purchase a Fleet Prep Kit #1 and follow the 18 hour instructions.
The patient may have a light evening meal excluding any dairy products the
night prior. After the evening meal the patient should not have anything to eat until after their appointment. Clear juice or water is okay up until 1 hour prior to the exam.

Sitzmark Studies

Patient takes a capsule. No laxatives over the next 5 days. Patient returns on 5th day for an x-ray of the abdomen.

Small Bowel Series

Nothing to eat or drink after midnight before the exam. Patient may take medications with small amounts of water.

 

 

Upper GI with Air

Nothing to eat or drink after midnight before the exam. Patient may take medications with small amounts of water.

 

 

 

All other tests do not require a preparation.  In the event you have an exam that is not listed above our staff will advise you if it requires a preparation.
